33 riders lined up for the last chance to be a winner in 2006, and it was Draperstown`s Jonathan Dempsey who took the verdict in a sprint from a 7 man breakaway. He narrowly pipped on-form Veteran Alastair Steele who was runner up for the second week in a row having also been narrowly beaten for the Ulster Veterans title at Nutts Corner.
Southerner Daire O`Sullivan from the Remax squad rounded up the top 3.
The club awarded primes on laps 2, 3 & 4 on the Thorneyhill climb, and these were taken by Alastair Steele on laps 2 & 4 with Northern Ireland Road Champion Peter Hawkins edging out Steele on lap 3.
Ballymena`s Tommy Wilson made it in to the top 6, wrapping up the Roadmans Best All Rounder competition for NICF riders but it was
Peter Wilson (Maryland Whs) produced the ride of the day winning the Under 16 event in solo fashion, and as he turns Junior next season the organisers granted him permission to compete in the feature event, which he did comfortably, finishing in the main field.

Petrie-Armstrong takes Surgenor Cup in 2006 NICF Season opener 11/3/06
Randalstown club Old Bleach CC promoted the opening round of the NICF racing season with the Surgenor Cup. Hastily moved from the planned circuit due to Motorway traffic using part of the original circuit due to the M2 being closed, the Caddy circuit was used, proving popular with the 50 entrants.
The Surgenor was the first `scratch` race of the season, with the whole field starting together, but by lap 2 14 riders had moved clear, and this group extended their lead throughout the race. Martyn Irvine, Last years winner Matt Ward and eventual winner Adam Armstrong all made attepts to break clear, but it was not until the final lap that 9 men moved clear of the original leaders.
Approaching the line it was last weeks Phoenix GP winner Frazer Duncan who led the sprint, but Armstrong was too strong for his Northern CC clubmate taking the verdict ahead of Omagh man Paul Mulligan with Ards man Irvine taking 3rd 2 seconds back. Duncan held on for 4th with Ger Heverin (Castlereagh CC) and Gary Cranston (East Antrim-Audi) rounding off the top 6.
The event, and the refreshments afterwards were a great success for the diminutive Old Bleach Club, but goes to prove what can be achieved with a small band of dedicated helpers.
